Good Tuesday evening! Eric is off to HEB tonight for our groceries; here’s our meal plan for the week!

Breakfast
I added Planters NUT-rition (seriously, Planters?) Energy Mix to the list this week. I love this blend and sometimes I’m not in the mood for a hot breakfast so I thought I’d do this plus a glass of whole milk.
Lunches
Leftovers! We have a ton of chili left from the party and I’m happily eating it every day for lunch.
Dinners
Chili dogs (Childhood fave right here! We do nitrate-free hot dogs and whole-wheat hot dog buns, which makes me feel better about the fact that the canned — but delicious — chili I like is made with like…random cow parts and ground-up tires.)
Grilled steak salad (grilled marinated flank steak + feta + red onion + cucumber + Romaine with a side of garlic bread)
Crock Pot BBQ pork (I’m going to try again because I’ve really been craving it. This is my I WILL CONQUER YOU, HOUSE! thing this week.)
Pizza
Workouts
Unsurprisingly, I did not do all of my planned workouts last week. I did yoga on Monday and yoga + spin on Wednesday as planned, but Thursday and Saturday didn’t happen. I wasn’t too worried about it; I had a pretty active week and I knew I’d get back into it this week.
Here’s the plan for this week!
Monday: long yoga class. For me, long yoga is anything longer than 45 minutes. Last night I felt like mixing it up so I looked for a new podcast to download; the shortest one I could find on the fly was 65 minutes. So, fine…except OHMYGOSH IT WAS REALLY HARD. Not fine!
Wednesday: yoga + spin for a total of 50 minutes
Thursday: 25 minute spin. Optional, as this isn’t my workout night. I’m just going to leave it here as an option.
Saturday: wild card. I am getting a bit sick of spin + yoga, mainly because it’s really tiring, but I’m not sure what I want to do instead yet. I might do a more athletic yoga class/DVD, or start doing the Core Fusion Lean & Toned DVD, which is what I call “barefoot bootcamp.” (You can also rent it on Amazon if you’re interested in trying it.) I haven’t done it in ages so I’m sort of nervous because I remember it being kind of an ass whooping with a ton of mountain climbers, but I think it would be good to start doing it once a week, just to keep things fresh.
That’s all I got! I’ve got some writing assignments to do tonight, and I’m hoping to have some time to read The Devil’s Gentleman: Privilege, Poison, and the Trial That Ushered in the Twentieth Century, which I started reading last night.
What’s your week looking like? Anything exciting on the menu for the week?

Followed your DVD link, clicked around, and ended up ordering the Core Fusion “30 Day Sculpt” as a starter DVD!
Oooh let me know how it goes for you! :)
What yoga podcasts do you do? I’ve really enjoyed a lot of your suggestions in the past – including core fusion! Kicked my butt, but then made it look awesome, so that’s fine.
I had been using YogaDownload.com for podcasts and videos, and then I started looking on iTunes a couple weeks ago for some variety (and possibly some free ones). Turns out, YogaDownload.com has some free options (in the 20-25 minute range), so I grabbed a couple of those, as well as some 10-minute ones from Tara Stiles (haven’t tried those yet). Then last night I did a new search on iTunes and came across Power Yoga with Dave Farmar free podcasts. I had already tried two Dave Farmar videos from YogaDownload.com so I downloaded some of his podcasts for something new since I knew I liked his classes!
Hi Rachel! I was wondering, why whole milk in particular? I’m an RD and just curious.
Hey! :) I am very pro-fat, and typically buy organic, full-fat dairy! I find it’s way more satisfying and filling. I noted it here because I couldn’t stay full on just trail mix and skim milk for breakfast, but whole milk makes a huge difference in that regard.
After a really big grocery run last Thursday we are motoring on through this week without needing much in the way of groceries. On the plan right now is Chicken Alfredo Parmesan, mini meatloaves, sloppy joe, and barbeque chicken. Outside of that? No idea. I’m still on a big yogurt kick for breakfast – that along with homemade zucchini bread!
The weather this week has me wanting to hunker down, though, so I don’t know how many workouts I am going to manage to get in – if any – but I was due for a rest week.

This week I’m giving myself a pass: working late three nights, Halloween the other night and the weekend bookends are back-to-back trips to NYC for family stuff. I loved running in the park last weekend so I’m going to try to make that a goal (oh hai NYC marathon). That has also meant sandwiches for dinner and salad bar for lunch (my fav, just pricey!). I want to bake tomorrow for the holiday…I’m thinking apple cider donut holes since I’m missing East Coast fall.
This week I read Water for Elephants and was meh about it
Ooh I really liked Water for Elephants. The movie was kinda meh, but I got into the book!
What’s next on your reading list?
I really liked the description of the circus, but I felt the human characters were not as developed as I usually like in fiction.
For my next book, I thought I would be the very last liberal woman in the US to read Bossypants. Or I might read A Walk in the Wood since I just read Wild and I might continue to the theme of hiking but with the East Coast this time.
I haven’t ready Bossypants either! You are not alone!!!
I need to get my ass a CrockPot. Seriously.
I didn’t get a chance to comment on your Halloween post, but wanted to say I loved your costumes!
Thanks! :)
those meals sound good! my lunches/dinners are pineapple teriyaki chicken, lentil tahini salad from oh she glows, fish tacos, and a chicken/noodle/asian stir-fry thing. breakfasts are a glorious rut of potatoes o’brien and cheese plus whatever veggie + protein i can throw in, or i’ll have the yummy new special k protein and fruit.
i like your comment about going full-fat with dairy. i’ve been doing that a little more in the past couple months, and i definitely feel/see a difference. i moved from 1% back to 2% milk, and back to full-fat cheese.
i was sick a week and a half ago, and i still haven’t worked out since before that. it’s so hard for me to get back in the gym after forcing myself to take time off. hoping that this is the morning though!

Mmmmmm fish tacos. Love.
Good luck with your gym goals today!
I WISH I could have a week like this! Work has been insane and family starts arriving today for the weekend which means meetings & conference calls all day and dinners out every night – I feel AWFUL! I love seeing everyone and the food has been great, but it’s times like this that I wish I had a house so that I could have everyone over and cook. My apartment doesn’t even have a dining room!

Digging the weekly updates on food + fitness! My weekly plans have been a little derailed by a cold and Hurricaine Sandy and the aftermath (i.e., not my usual grocery trip with lots of produce beforehand and lots of empty shelves after it hit!). I’m making do with some sturdy fruits and vegs leftover from last week (apples, kale, squash, etc.) and digging up some goodies in my freezer. I probably should be doing that anyway, Sandy or not!
