Part of the reason I teamed up with fitbook by fitlosophy for the BLOG YOUR HEART OUT campaign is because I’ve been a big fan of the company, and their product, for a long time. I discovered the fitbook back in 2010 and was immediately impressed.

I genuinely enjoy using the fitbook because it’s just so well designed; I love everything from the square shape to the tiny pen to the color scheme. I really think it’s a superior food and fitness journal and I recommend it to anyone who is looking to improve his or her habits in those areas.

And fitlosophy is a small business started and run by a kickass female entrepreneur who I really admire. I haven’t done any giveaways since I changed URLs, and even before that, I wasn’t doing them very often, mainly because it’s hard to find companies and products that are a good fit for me. But when I was offered a discount code and a fitbook to give away as a thank you for participating in the BLOG YOUR HEART OUT campaign, I didn’t think twice. It’s a product I’m happy to share!

To enter to win a fitbook, just leave a comment on this post with your favorite way to relieve stress. While I didn’t get an opportunity to devote any of my BLOG YOUR HEART OUT posts to stress relief, it’s something I believe is a crucial aspect of a healthy heart and I’d love to hear the ways you calm the eff down in your everyday life.
And Imma be shameless here and give you extra entries for sharing this post. If you tweet it or share it on Facebook, you can get get extra entries. Just leave a separate comment for each way you share it. (WE’RE ON THE HONOR SYSTEM HERE, PEOPLE.)
You have until Wednesday 2/27 at 12 PM EST to enter; I’ll pick a winner at random from all of the entries and update this post with the winner’s name on Wednesday evening. In the meantime, you can use the coupon code GORED14 to get 14% off any purchase at getfitbook.com. The coupon code is good through Thursday 2/28, so if you don’t win, you’ll still have time to use it before it expires.
That’s all I got! Shower me in your entries!
UPDATE 2/27: I used a random number generator to choose a winner and it was #33: Jessica! She wrote, “A good book and a warm bath always help me relieve stress.”
Thanks to everyone who entered and remember to use the discount code above if you still want to make a fitbook purchase!

My favorite way to relieve stress? A bath and a book…plus some meditation thrown in :)
My favorite way to de-stress is a tie between a bath and getting some exercise… The last time I was in high stress mode (due to worrying my boyfriend and his friends had gone off the road in a snow storm on a random road trip to Canada with their phones all being dead) getting my sweat on honestly made me feel so much better.
Or talking to my mom. Because she knows. always.
I totally read that as gored instead of go red :-D
To relax i like just vegging out with tv honestly. I’d love to win a fitbook!
I have been thinking of investing in a Fitbook for a while now! My favorite way to relieve stress these days is either practicing yoga or having a glass of wine, sometimes one after the other. :)

My favorite way to relieve stress is a SUPER hot (almost scalding) shower, putting on fuzzy socks, and having the fiance feed me grapes in bed. HA! Just kidding. :) I have to say I need to work more on developing a better set of de-stressing tactics. The shower for sure helps, but I should do more. Journaling is awesome too!
A long-ago substance abuse counselor got me hooked (no pun intended) on beading – not only is it great stress relief, you end up w/beautiful bracelets and necklaces to give to your friends, a la summer camp.
I found myself so relaxed on a recent cruise so now I like to put on “crashing waves” music and meditate. Perfect way for me to just chill out and de-stress.
I would love to win a Fitbook! I have an UP band and tend to track what I eat on the iPhone app, but I always forget. I think writing it down is the way to go.
To relieve stress I like to either 1. SLEEP or 2. run on the treadmill. They are completely different but for me they work!

I relieve stress on the driving range or the treadmill!
My favorite way to relieve stress is a new hobby… yoga. I go to a class two days per week on my lunch hour and it’s soooo good
Also, I shared on Fb!
Any kind of physical activity – lately I’ve been turning to yoga to destress when things get really stressful at work. It’s the best way to start a day that I know is going to be jam packed with meetings!
My favorite way to de-stress is to put a hot washcloth over my face and lay down for a few minutes. It feels awesome and relaxes me! Also, red wine never hurts. (and it’s good for your heart, eh!?)

spin class.
Someone else tells me what to do so I don’t have to think, and at the end I’m a sweaty, less-stressed person.

My favorite way: going horseback riding!! Totally clears my mind! If however going for a ride is not possible, I like to sit back, watch a movie and cuddles with the cats
Yoga!
A hot power yoga class never fails to clear my mind and leave me feeling much more calm and centered. :)
My favorite way to de-stress is to take a bubble bath while listening to strong female music!
Relaxing music is what I like best but what works best is plenty of vigorous exercise
It’s not very glamorous, but I find that if I just let myself have a good cry (over a tv show, book, long distance phone plan commercial…) I come out the other side feeling pretty purged.
Failing that, I’ll usually do some probably unnecessary furniture makeover!
A long walk, Bikram yoga, or sex.

Hot yoga and catching up with good friends!

I’m with Stefanie — horseback riding would be my first choice! If not that, then I have two things I tend to do: those that I THINK will help me de-stress and those that actually are good for me. The first involves cookies or brownie batter, and the second involves a run or a good weight session :)

My main methods of relaxing are three-fold. It starts with a yoga class, then moves on to a glass of red wine, then ends with a few episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. (And maybe another glass of red wine.) Works like a charm!

My favorite way to deal with stress is a longgg warm bath with epsom salt.
My favorite way to relieve stress was to always go for a run, but at 8 months pregnant that just isn’t happening. Now it’s just a warm shower and a deep breath.
My favorite way to burn off the stress is go to the dog park with my pooch. The fresh air and adorable pups helps put me at ease.
My favorite way to de-stress is to turn on loud music (preferably show tunes or something I can sing and dance to) and go to work in the kitchen. I can’t check my computer or pick up my phone when my hands are covered in flour, perfect solution!
Running and grocery shopping. For some reason going to Wegmans always calms me down and relieves my stress–even if I don’t buy anything! I grab a coffee and wander the store to see what is new and exciting!
My favorite way to relieve stress is to play with my puppy! He can be such a handful, but puppy kisses and tug of war seems to melt the stresses of the day away :)
My favorite way to relieve stress? A 90-minute ashtanga yoga class!

Yoga class followed by a glass of wine… or a weekend afternoon yoga class, followed by a shower and a NAP!
I have to say, Rachel, I don’t actually want to win this book. It looks super nicely done, but food logging is major danger territory for me. I have done it in the past, but I can’t seem to handle it without 1) guilt issues and 2) obsession. Being obsessed about what I’m eating means I’m thinking about food ALL THE TIME and it’s just bad news for me.
If you are able to track food without the crazy that plagues me, I’d love to read a post about how! It seems to work for a lot of people, and I’d love to find a way to handle it without going bonkers.
emily hassman recently posted..you just have to know where to look.
Emily, I have a lot of the same issues. I use MyFitnessPal.com (sporadically) because I don’t have to look at how I’m doing, necessarily. And it takes care of some of that “paying too much attention” stuff.
I also find that eating mindfully can help. Just… slowing the hell down and only eating stuff I love (which, fortunately, is generally healthy stuff).
You know, it’s interesting…whenever I’ve had food issues, obsessively writing down what I ate was never a part of that. For me, food journaling was the total opposite: a tool to write down all the healthy foods I am eating, not a place to write down the foods I shouldn’t have eaten. I used it more as a tool for positive change…not just for my body, but my relationship with food. I would write out, say, all the veggies in a salad I ate (instead of just writing “salad) and seeing it all spelled out like that made me feel good, healthy, and positive, like I’d done something great for myself. And it really encouraged me to think about what I’m putting in my body, not what I’m taking out. And I guess during the times when I’ve been not eating or in a really bad place with food, I didn’t want to remember how little I was eating because deep down I knew it wasn’t a good thing, so I avoided writing down what I had (or hadn’t) eaten.
So I guess because I happened to avoid food journals at my worst, they remain a positive thing for me. That said, I can see how it could be a really negative tool for a lot of people. My best advice would be to try to look at it as a fun place to list all the good stuff you’re eating rather than a report card of the things you shouldn’t have eaten.
Thoughts??
I get satisfaction out of writing down my workouts. This year, I bought a little Cavallini weekly planner especially for that purpose. I write down the yoga classes, etc. The satisfaction comes when I look at the past month and see how very many days have something written on them, or when I look back at the past week to realize that I did more than I thought. I can see parallels between that and writing out all those veggies in your salad!
I think I see workouts as always a positive thing, whereas I still struggle with food being a negative thing too often. I never thought of my food journaling as chronicling my achievements but as a tool to control my(bad)self. And of course, once I started writing down the foods, I wanted to write down the calories alongside it. Calorie counting, for me, means “spending your whole day thinking about the things you aren’t allowed to eat.” Yikes.
Now, I am careful to set positive dietary goals, not negative or restrictive diet goals. So I’m currently focused on eating veggies with every meal, leafy greens at least once a day, and drinking lots of water. I bet I could write down my veggies per meal or leafy greens per day and find that totally satisfying.

My favorite way is either through a walk or just a minute of fresh air. Removing myself from the stressor of a situation and just breathing for a second. Of course, this is easier said than done. :)
Take a pillow and beat my bed with it while I shout out the things that are bothering me or just a few phrases that begin with the letter F. Great way to verbalize what is bothering me and physically get out energy. If I can’t do that, I take a walk or talk to a friend.

Regardless, I de-stress by reading…just about anything. While novels are my first love, I’ve found reading healthy living blogs (like yours!) is a big help with my weight stress issues.
Crap, I’m so sorry…it’s GORED14. I updated the post to reflect it and I apologize for not having it right the first time!
Thanks!!
Reading! It calms me down and allows me to focus on something else.
It depends on where and when I’m stressed. At work? I’m grateful to my amazing friends at work – I walk over to any one of a number of offices and talk it out. Or online shopping! I don’t even need to buy anything, but taking a break from work to look at pretty things (or cool things), can be a 5 minute stress relief.
At home? I think there’s a reason that research shows that folks who share their homes with animals feel less stress. I have had life long insomnia that would stress me out (not that that’s my only stress at home, it’s just that this happened last night so it’s very recent). Once we adopted pupster, difficulty falling asleep or waking in the middle of the night has elicited less anxiety and stress now that I’m able go cuddle her. I relieve at-home stress with cuddles! We have no shortage of those. And cleaning, because I’m neurotic and it helps me feel in control of something.
Hmm, favorite way to relieve stress – a good book, or wine with friends. This fitness log looks great!
My favorite way to relieve stress is cleaning house or maybe just curling up with my boyfriend, talking about whatever random thoughts pop into our head and sometimes just singing snippets of songs to each other.
Cooking! Or sitting down to read with a cup of tea. If I’m stressed but not panicked, I love lifting weights to get into a better headspace.
yoga!
My favorite way to relieve stress is picking up the phone and calling my dad. He always has the best insight and can put things back into perspective for me. By the end of the conversation he usually has me laughing, which is a stress reliever in itself!
My favorite way to relieve stress is a run! I always feel better when I get back!
I run and run and run some more. That’s my favorite way to relieve stress. No matter what my mood is when I begin a run, by the time its over I’m all smiles. :)
I tend to relieve stress by cleaning (all the things!). My roommates certainly appreciate my stressed-out days. A beer while cleaning always helps too. I’m a grad student, so stress is basically a constant and my house is pretty spotless. ;)
When I’m stressed, I love to knit and watch TV or to do Bikram Yoga, if available at the time of my stress.
To de-stress, I like to play Solitaire or Sudoku on my iPad. It puts all of my focus on the game, and by the time I’ve finished playing, it’s easier to think through or forget about (whichever is appropriate) whatever is stressing me out.

I love to relax by laying on the couch reading a novel. Free time to read is a luxury I don’t often have, but when I need to de-stress, it is nice to escape into the pages of a great book.
My favorite way to relieve stress is to call a friend and vent. I just moved across the country, so I don’t really have anyone here yet; it’s amazing to hear a new voice.

This book looks great! I think writing down daily exercise routines and daily eats is definitely helpful in reaching your goals.
My favorite way to destress is either working on my smashbook or drinking hot tea while listening to Christian music.

My favorite downtime is reading blogs. It is absolutely the only time I can stand to remain at the computer before or after working!
I relieve stress with a hot chai and a good book! Or if I have the time, a long day at the beach!
By running and running and running.

I consciously try to take deep breaths and focus on just that. When I’m home, I spray some lavendar oil around, which never lets me down.
To relive stress
I run
Or
I eat some really spicy Thai Laska
…. Either way I sweat it out
Then I check my diary and write a checklist of what I need to do – making I sure I give a big tick to things I have already achieved. (Yay makes me feel good)
