I missed the Friday social last week, but it’s probably OK — I didn’t have a ton of time last week to read articles to share anyway! But I’m making up for lost time this week.
The GOP’s Disdain for Women is Appalling [LA Times]
A Doll’s Magic, Free to Renew [The New York Times. The thing that sticks out to me about this article more than anything else is the fact that so many young girls aren't allowed to have dolls. Uh, whut? First of all, the American Girl books and dolls inspired me so much as a budding young feminist of color interested in history; you can complain they are overpriced but you can't exactly compare them to Barbies. Second of all, not allowing your daughter to play with dolls when she wants to kind of sends a message that dolls are bad because they are a stereotypical "girl thing," and things that girls like are inherently bad or stupid. I'm sure these progressive parents have their reasoning but I'm not sure I can get on board with that.]
The Feminist Case for Fashion Week [The Guardian]
What’s Independence Worth? [The Cut]
You Don’t Need Kids to “Start a Family” [Offbeat Families -- this post actually touches on something that came up in the comments here last month.]
The Day IBM Let Married Women Work [Gizmodo]
Size 2 through 18: Me and My Pants Take a Walk Down Memory Lane [xoJane]
I’m really excited it’s almost the weekend! Eric and I are taking a day trip to Austin tomorrow, which should be fun. Other than that, my weekend plans are pretty much the same old: writing, working out, and hanging out. I’m also hoping to try out some kind of adorable/lovey-dovey Valentine’s Day recipe this weekend too, but we’ll see how much time I have!
What are you guys up to this weekend? How was your week? Any good links to share?

I live in Austin! Hope you guys have a fabulous time. TEDxAustin is going on tomorrow and there will be viewing parties around town so I’m possibly going to one.
Great links this week!
This week I feel in love with this blog: http://rosiesays.com/
It’s written by the woman who wrote “A Letter to the Guy Who Harassed Me Outside the Bar” – which you should read if you haven’t seen it before http://www.rolereboot.org/culture-and-politics/details/2012-12-a-letter-to-the-guy-who-harrassed-me-outside-the-bar
I came across Rosie Says a couple months ago via an article she had published on Jezebel, and yeah…pretty great stuff!
I figured it’d be something you’d browsed before!
“To them, women are murderous sluts when they want health care, uppity feminazis when they dare to consider themselves citizens of the republic, yet totally hot when they are working in porn videos.” my sentiments exactly. Thanks for sharing these articles!
It’s been a long-ass week. R is at a hotel tonight for her exam tomorrow and I think I’m more anxious than she is! I worked later than usual more than usual this week and I’m just excited for it to be Friday and to do a lot of nothing this weekend…and hoping to celebrate both R passing her exam and the birth of our first niece or nephew!
Loved this article I came across: http://recoveringyogi.com/why-im-hesitant-to-teach-yoga-to-a-niche-audience/
Really digging the below link! Have been a fan of Girls since day 1 and recently watched my first episode of Enlightened and made it through the whole 14 episodes in about 2 days!
Really liking this recent crop of ballsy female characters on TV, with an honorable mention to Laura Linney’s Cathy Jamison on “The Big C” and Kristen Bell’s Jeannie Van Der Hooven on “House of Lies”
