Does a body good: 3-5-13

by Rachel Wilkerson on March 6, 2013

I skipped out on doing a full yoga session on Monday night, so I decided to do it Tuesday morning instead. But I didn’t sleep well and pretty much wanted to fall asleep on my mat (it’s…surprisingly comfy when you’ve only been awake for ten minutes), so I was prepared for a crappy yoga session followed by a really long, annoying day. But…it was actually a great day! I had a lot of energy and things just  seemed to be going my way. It all left me feeling like, Well, damnit, now I guess I have to do morning yoga more often.

Last night was my night to cook, and Eric and I have a sort of unofficial rule that we can’t make a frozen pizza for dinner until at least Wednesday night. On Monday or Tuesday it feels like such a cop-out, and a sign that the week is going to be a bad one. But…I wanted to make some other things last night, so I felt like that justified it. I wasn’t not cooking. I just wasn’t cooking dinner.

First up: chai banana bread. With Indiana.

Once that was in the oven, I moved onto the next thing: roasted garlic olive oil. When Eric was making the grocery list on Sunday, I told him we needed five cloves of garlic for a recipe…but he ended up getting five heads of garlic. Because we already had thyme for the roasted veggies I made, I figured it was a good time to give this recipe a try.

I am…not sure how it turned out. I halved the recipe and wasn’t sure what size baking dish to use (and a bunch of the better options were dirty), so that may have had an effect. It smelled good while it was cooking, but it may or may not have really infused the oil. We’ll see.

After I got all fancy with my bread and olive oil, I tried to get fancy with dinner, but there’s only so much you can do with frozen pizza.

Since yesterday went so swimmingly, I kind of figured I should give morning yoga a try again today. I did the same routine as yesterday: a 30-minute Forrest yoga podcast. Once again, I was pretty zoned out during the whole thing, but I’ve felt great ever since finishing it. After yoga, I had some bacon and a hard-boiled egg and made the glaze for the banana bread, and then had a slice with a cup of hot chocolate as I got started on my day!

So good! I love this recipe.

I hope today goes as well as yesterday did but things seem to be off to a promising start!

Indiana is so adorable! What a sweet face. I bet he and Larry would get along. The banana bread sounds incredible.

BAHAHAHA lazy dinner twins! My boyfriend and I were going to make this avocado sriracha egg salad (http://www.runningtothekitchen.com/2013/02/creamy-avocado-sriracha-egg-salad/) which looks incredibly easy, AND I’d already prepped the hard boiled eggs over the weekend (go me), but I just could not get it going. After a busy day at work, battling the rush hour traffic to go return a skirt at the mall, and stopping at TJs on the way home, I didn’t feel like following along to any recipe, even this super simple one. We, too, threw a frozen pizza in the oven and slapped together a salad (which was delicious). I made the dressing, so that kind of counts as cooking, right?

Virtual fist bump for lazy dinners! Also, making the dressing totally counts.

Meanwhile, I love egg salad and that recipe looks awesome.

Haha I can definitely relate to saving takeout for later in the week. I will say though that I’ve also changed my philosophy about takeout/eating out during the week. I used to save it for the weekends but realized that’s when we have the most time to cook, so now I use those funds to give myself some relief during the week. To your point, if I need relief on Monday then we are not off to a good start!

That last photo looks great – totally you.

I also have switched to saving the bigger recipes for the weekend, and I really like it. It gives me the time to relax/enjoy it and not just rush around the kitchen. (Also, a weekend filled with takeout can just feel blah.) But it hadn’t occurred to me to re-budget to allow for some weeknight takeout…that is a really great idea.

And thank you. I appreciate that. :)

Indiana is so adorable. I showed that pic to my fiance and he awwed out loud.

I’m doing a yoga podcast tonight. We got snow (yay?) and I had to plan to clear the car off instead of yoga-ing out this morning. We ran yesterday and my calves are so. tight. today.

That bread looks great and your dog is just the cutest!!!

I’ve just added yoga to my post work warm-down routine for tonight, I’m hoping that officially adding it to the To Do List and scheduling time for it will help me stay on track. Thank you for the motivation and inspiration!

If I have evening plans (like GOOD evening plans), I can motivate for a 5 AM workout. But it’s always running because like it’s hard to fall back to sleep when I’m outside in the cold on the pavement. I think I might need to challenge myself to an AM yoga sesh.

Garlic infused olive oil? That’s like two of my best friends getting together and having a really cute baby. Except the baby is delicious.
